What is SEO?

Each day hundreds of millions of people search for products and information using search engines like Google, Yahoo!, and MSN.

SEO (also known as search engine optimization) is the art and science of publishing information and building links in a manner that makes search engines want to rank your site high in the search results.


- Why is Search so Effective? - Most marketing rudely interrupts people in the hopes to pound a message into a prospective client’s head. The problem is, as people throw more clutter into your life you are less willing to act on it. People aim to avoid the clutter by searching for exactly what they want. Since their mind is actively engaged people are far more likely to act upon a search result than any other form of advertising. Recently Google did a seminar describing how publishers can make more money publishing contextual advertisements. People are more receptive to ads when they do not realize that they are looking at ads. - Is There Money in the Search Market? - Google is less than a decade old and is already worth over 100 billion dollars. They sell billions of dollars worth of ads every year. Here is the dirty little secret they don’t want the average webmaster to know: most of the time people click the regular search results, not the ads. Most web users do not realize where the ads are or how sites are ranked. Users trust Google, and when you rank well that trust is transferred to YOUR site.
