Blastfeed is an on-line service that lets you aggregate, remix and filter RSS feeds. And Blastfeed can immediately notify you of any results of such filtering.

Blastfeed will only collect items that match your criteria in each feed. The results will be amalgamated into a single file and sent to you by email, Instant Messaging or as a new RSS feed, when and where you want it.

BlastFeed Main Features

Blastfeed includes a number of features that help you aggregate, filter RSS feeds and sends you instant notification as soon as any result matching your criteria appear

In general, the main functionalities of Blastfeed revolve around three topics: 1) Build your list of feeds, i.e. the ones you are interested in, 2) Create your channels of information, either from scratch, or by cloning or selecting an existing one and 3) Choose how to get results.

 1. Populate your feed list

• Load your OPML file, or
• Manually key in the feed URL, or
• Browse and select feeds from other feed lists, or
• Select channels already set by other users (NEW), or
• Use our ’bookmarklet’ to discover feeds while surfing on the web and assign feeds to your list or to a channel, or
• Select channels already set by other users, or
• Combine any of the above

 2. Create your channels

• Enter keywords that define your topic of interest
• Apply keywords anywhere or in specific fields of the RSS feed
• Select the feeds that you want to monitor agains these keywords
• Create channels combining unfiltered feeds with filtered feeds (NEW) or different channels together
• Clone any channel and apply your own keywords
• Share your channels with others

 3. Get relevant results

• Get your channel results as an RSS feed and add it to your favourite reader
• Get results by email at your preferred pace.
• Recommend and send the articles you receive to your friends (NEW)
• Add such articles to your favorite bookmarking system (NEW)
• Get notified instantaneously on your preferred IM tool, e.g. MSN, ICQ, GTalk, Yahoo Messenger, Jabber (NEW)

• Blastfeed is a scalable, open platform designed for managing a very large number of feeds, users and notifications. We want to expose all Blastfeed services via a full API. Hence all services can be integrated within existing applications.
• Blastfeed is an on-line service. However in today information environment it may be necessary to store items or articles for future re-useor search. Upon receiving channel results, users will be able to save items and build their own knowledge base, with a complete search capability.
• Blastfeed can also behave as a publishing platform where certain events detected with the arrival of new feeds trigger other events to occur, e.g. publish the post matching the criteria defined on a portlet.
• Since Blastfeed can handle any RSS formats, it can also treat any enrichment brought to these formats. Read this post here on enriched RSS for more information.
• Our delivery engine can be extended to accomodate any application. It requires the addition of plug-ins. For instance, a plug-in for SameTime, the popular corporate IM can easily be deployed.
• Blastfeed can provide administration tools for managing users, distribution lists, rights to subscribe to such channel or not.
• SMS alerts could be set up for specific channels where such alerts would be meaningful. SMS alerts could be combined with IM notification and email ones.
• RSS feeds do not contain always the full description of a post. We propose to fetch the complete description and check the filtering criteria against the full content. If it matches, then the post will be sent as a result and the original web page stored.
• Likewise for comments. Comments may include relevant information. We can detect comments in a page (if no comment feed exists), check filtering criteria against them and extract the relevant comment.
